Prof. Lei CHEN

Biography: Lei Chen, is a chair professor in the data science and analytic thrust at HKUST (GZ), Fellow of the IEEE, and a Distinguished Member of the ACM. Currently, Prof. Chen serves as the dean of information hub, the director of Big Data Institute at HKUST, MOE/MSRA Information Technology Key Laboratory. Prof. Chen’s research interests include Data-driven AI, knowledge graphs, blockchains, data privacy, crowdsourcing, spatial and temporal databases and query optimization on large graphs and probabilistic databases. He received his BS degree in computer science and engineering from Tianjin University, Tianjin, China, MA degree from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand, and PhD in computer science from the University of Waterloo, Canada. Prof. Chen received the SIGMOD Test-of-Time Award in 2015, Best research paper award in VLDB 2022. The system developed by Prof. Chen’s team won the excellent demonstration award in VLDB 2014. Prof. Chen had served as VLDB 2019 PC Co-chair. Currently, Prof. Chen serves as Editor-in-chief of IEEE Transaction on Data and Knowledge Engineering and an executive member of the VLDB endowment.
Prof. James Tin Yau KWOK

Biography: James Kwok is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is an IEEE Fellow.Prof Kwok received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Hong Kong and his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He then joined the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University as an Assistant Professor. He returned to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and is now a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. He is serving as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Neural Networks, Neurocomputing, Artificial Intelligence Journal, International Journal of Data Science and Analytics, and on the Editorial Board of Machine Learning. He is also serving / served as Senior Area Chairs of major machine learning / AI conferences including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, IJCAI, and as Area Chairs of conferences including AAAI and ECML. He is on the IJCAI Board of Trustees. He is recognized as the Most Influential Scholar Award Honorable Mention for "outstanding and vibrant contributions to the field of AAAI/IJCAI between 2009 and 2019". Prof. Maria Pia Fanti

Biography: Maria Pia Fanti (IEEE Fellow and Fellow of the Asia-Pacific AIA) received the Laurea degree in electronic engineering from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 1983. She was a visiting researcher at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, New York, in 1999. Since 1983, she has been with the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering of the Polytechnic of Bari, Italy, where she is currently a Full Professor of system and control engineering and Chair of the Laboratory of Automation and Control. Her research interests include modeling and control of complex systems, intelligent transportation systems, smart logistics; Petri nets; consensus protocols; fault detection. Prof. Fanti has published more than +310 papers and two textbooks on her research topics. She was senior editor of the IEEE Trans. on Automation Science and Engineering and member at large of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society. Currently, she is Associate Editor of the IEEE Trans. on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems, member of the AdCom of the IEEE Robotics and Automaton Society, and chair of the Technical Committee on Automation in Logistics of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. Prof. Fanti was General Chair of the 2011 IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, the 2017 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics and the 2019 Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Conference.
Prof. Daowen Qiu

Biography: Prof. Daowen Qiu received the Ph.D. degree in mathematics from Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China, in 2000. During 2000 and 2001, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher in computer science with Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. Since August 2002, he has associated with Sun Yat-Sen University, and then a full Professor of computer science in May 2004. His current research interests include quantum computing, discrete event systems, fuzzy and probabilistic computation, and he has focused on models of quantum and probabilistic computation, quantum information. He is the author or coauthor of more than 180 peer-review papers published in various academic journals and conferences, including Information and Computation, Artificial Intelligence, Journal of Computer and System Sciences, Theoretical Computer Science, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Part B, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Physical Review A, Quantum Information and Computation, Journal of Physics A, and Science in China. He has served as editors or associated editors in international academic journals, including: Theoretical Computer Science; Quantum Reports; Artificial Intelligence Evolution; Frontiers in Computer Science; Open Journal of Optimization.
Prof. Chun-Yi Su

Biography:Dr. Chun-Yi Su received his Ph.D. degrees in control engineering from South China University of Technology in 1990. After a seven-year stint at the University of Victoria, he joined the Concordia University in 1998, where he is currently a Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and holds the Concordia Research Chair in Control. His research covers control theory and its applications to various mechanical systems, with a focus on control of systems involving hysteresis nonlinearities. He is the author or co-author of over 500 publications, which have appeared in journals, as book chapters and in conference proceedings. He has been identified as 2019, 2020 and 2021 Highly Cited Researchers from Clarivate.
Dr. Su has served as Associate Editor for several journals, including IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, and several other journals. He is a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE RA Society. He served for many conferences as an Organizing Committee Member, including the General Chairs and Program Chairs.
Assoc. Prof. Xie Ming

Biography: Xie Ming is holding the positions of Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Humanoid Robotics (Indexed by SCI/SCIE), Associate Editor of IEEE Transaction on Autonomous Mental Development, and Director of private companies. He has served as technical consultants to Asia Electronics Pte Ltd in 1994, Port of Singapore Authority in 1994, Delphi Automotive Systems Pte Ltd in 2001, ST Aerospace Ltd in 2006, Murata Electronics Pte Ltd in 2007, and Sony Electronics Pte Ltd in 2007. He has also worked with Renault Automation (Paris/France) in 1986, INRIA Sophia-Antipolis (Nice/France) between 1990 and 1993, and Singapore-MIT Alliance between 2000 and 2004. In addition, Xie Ming has served as the General Chair of International Conference on Climbing and Walking Robots in 2007, and International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications in 2009. Xie Ming obtained his B.Eng in control and automation in 1984. At the same year, he was selected as one of Chinese government’s overseas scholars. Thereafter, he obtained the Master degree in industrial automation from the University of Valenciennes (France) in 1986, and the Ph.D degree in informatics from the University of Rennes (France) in 1989. He has published one best-selling book in robotics in 2003, and over 100 research papers so far. Xie Ming has taught a number of university courses such as Applied Machine Vision, Robotics, Computer Graphics, Statistical Process Control, and Physics. Xie Ming’s research strengths are in machine intelligence, humanoid robotics and autonomous vehicles. In total, he has won two scientific competition awards, and two best conference paper awards.
