Prof. Henry Leung

Biography: Before joining the University of Calgary, Dr. Henry Leung was with the Department of National Defence (DND) of Canada as a defence scientist to conduct research and development of decision support systems, radar signal processing and data fusion. He was appointed as the national leader to represent Canada for the TTCP cooperative program on radar data processing and sensor fusion. His current research includes data mining, information fusion, machine learning, nonlinear dynamics, decision support, robotics, sensor networks and intern of things. He has published extensively in the open literature on these topics. He has over 240 journal papers and over 200 refereed conference papers. He also holds more than 15 patents. He is also a visiting professor of the Shanghau JiaoTong University, PR China (2017-2020) and a HaiTien academic visiting professor of the Dalian University of Technology, PR China (20180-2020). Dr. Leung is the Topical Editor of the International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems on Robotic Sensors. He is the editor of the Springer book series on “Information Fusion and Data Science”. He is currently the associate editor of various journals such as IEEE Trams. Aerospace and Electronic Systems, IEEE Circuits and System Magazine, IEICE Trans. on Nonlinear Theory and Applications. He was the chair of the Nonlinear Circuits and Systems of the IEEE Circuit and System Society and has served on the program committee, organizing committee, track chairs for various conferences. He has also served as guest editors for various journals such as “Intelligent Transportation Systems” for the International Journal on Information Fusion, “Cognitive Sensor Networks” and “Deep Learning for Multi-sensor Multi-source Information Fusion” for the IEEE Sensor Journal. He is a Fellow of IEEE and SPIE. 

 

Prof. Benjamin W. Wah

Biography: Wah was born in Hong Kong and graduated from Queen Elizabeth School, Hong Kong. He received his BS and MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Columbia University, USA, then furthered his studies at the University of California, Berkeley, obtaining an MS in Computer Science and a PhD in Databases.[1] Wah began his teaching career in Purdue University in 1979. He later joined the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1985, which he served until his retirement at the end of 2011. In 1985-2011, he was the Franklin W. Woeltge Endowed Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA. In 2008-2009, he also served as Director of the Advanced Digital Sciences Center in Singapore, a US$50 million research center established by the University of Illinois in Singapore in collaboration with the Singapore government's Agency for Science, Technology and Research. In 1998–1999, Wah was Chair Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and in that year received an Exemplary Teaching Award. From 1999 to 2003, he served as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at CUHK. Between 2009-2019, he served as Provost of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Wah is an expert on non-linear programming, multimedia signal processing and artificial intelligence. He has published numerous research articles in top professional journals, such as Artificial Intelligence, IEEE Trans. in Computers, IEEE Trans. on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Trans. on Multimedia, IEEE Trans. on Parallel and Distributed Technology, IEEE Trans. on Software Engineering, Journal of Global Optimization, Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research. He is also the author of two books, and Editor-in-Chief of Wiley's Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Engineering (published in 2008), and has contributed to many edited books and book chapters. He has served on many journal editorial boards. He also holds many Endowed Professorships and Honorary Professorships in leading universities in the United States of America and in Asia. Professor Wah was elected President of IEEE Computer Society in 2001. He was a member of the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong between 2005 and 2009 and Chairman of its Engineering Panel between 2006 and 2009. He has been a member of the HK Research Grants Council since 2011. Professor Wah has received numerous honors and awards for his distinguished academic and professional achievements, including the Tsutomu Kanai Award, the W. Wallace McDowell Award, and the Richard E. Merwin Distinguished Service Award, all from the IEEE Computer Society, the Pan Wen Yuan Foundation Outstanding Research Award, and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal. In 2011, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley. He has been elected: Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Fellow of IEEE, Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery.

 

Prof. James Tin Yau KWOK (Fellow IEEE)

Biography: Prof. Kwok is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Prof. Kwok is serving as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Neurocomputing, Artificial Intelligence Journal, International Journal of Data Science and Analytics, and Editorial Board Member of Machine Learning. He also served/is serving as Senior Area Chairs of major machine learning / AI conferences including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, IJCAI, and as Area Chairs of conferences including AAAI and ECML. He is recognized as the Most Influential Scholar Award Honorable Mention for "outstanding and vibrant contributions to the field of AAAI/IJCAI between 2009 and 2019". Prof Kwok will be the IJCAI-2025 Program Chair. He is an IEEE Fellow.

 

Prof. Huiyu Zhou

Biography: Dr. Huiyu Zhou received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Radio Technology from Huazhong University of Science and Technology of China, and a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Dundee of United Kingdom, respectively. He was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Vision from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Dr. Zhou currently is a full Professor at School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He has published over 380 peer-reviewed papers in the field. He was the recipient of "CVIU 2012 Most Cited Paper Award", “MIUA 2020 Best Paper Award”, “ICPRAM 2016 Best Paper Award” and was nominated for “ICPRAM 2017 Best Student Paper Award” and "MBEC 2006 Nightingale Prize". His research work has been or is being supported by UK EPSRC, ESRC, AHRC, MRC, EU, Royal Society, Leverhulme Trust, Invest NI, Puffin Trust, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Invest NI and industry.

 

Distinguished Professor Wanyang Dai

Biography: Wanyang Dai is a Distinguished Professor in Mathematics Department of Nanjing University, Chief Scientist at Su Xia Control Technology, President and CEO of U.S. based (blochchain and quantum computing) SIR Forum (Industial 6.0 Forum), a Special Guest Expert in Jiangsu FinTech Research Center, President of Jiangsu Probability & Statistics Society, Chairman of Jiangsu Big Data-Blockchain and Smart Information Special Committee, Chief Scientist at Depths Digital Economy Research Institute, and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Advances in Applied Mathematics, where his research includes stochastic processes related optimization and optimal control, admission/scheduling/routing protocols and performance analysis/optimization for various projects in BigData-Blockchain oriented quantum-cloud computing and the next generation of wireless and wireline communication systems, forward/backward stochastic (ordinary/partial) differential equations and their applications to queueing systems, stochastic differential games, communication networks, Internet of Things, financial engineering, energy and power engineering, etc. His “influential” achievements are published in “big name” journals including Quantum Information Processing, Operational Research, Operations Research, Computers & Mathematics with Applications, Communications in Mathematical Sciences, Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, Queueing Systems, Mathematical and Computer Modeling of Dynamical Systems, etc. His researches are awarded as outstanding papers by various academic societies, e.g., IEEE Top Conference Series, etc.. He received his Ph.D degree in applied mathematics jointly with industrial engineering and systems engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, U.S.A., in 1996, where he worked on stochastics and applied probability concerning network performance modeling and analysis, algorithm design and implementation via stochastic diffusion approximation. The breakthrough results and methodologies developed in his thesis were cited, used, and claimed as “contemporaneous and independent” achievements by some other subsequent breakthrough papers that were presented as “45 minute invited talk in probability and statistics” in International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 1998, which is the most privilege honor in the mathematical society. The designed finite element-Galerkin algorithm to compute the stationary distributions of reflecting Brownian motions (weak solutions of general dimensional partial differential equations) is also well-known to the related fields.

 

Prof. Yong Yue (Head of Department)

Bio: Yong Yue (BEng Northeastern China, PhD Heriot-Watt UK, CEng, FIET, FIMechE, FHEA) is currently a Professor and Director of the Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC). He was Head of Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (2013-2019). Prior to joining XJTLU, he had held various positions in industry and academia in China and the UK, including Engineer, Project Manager, Professor, Director of Research and Head of Department.
Professor Yue has experience in learning and teaching, research and enterprise as well as management. He has led a variety of research and professional projects supported by major funding bodies and industry. He has also lead curriculum development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications and supervised 22 PhD students to successful completion.
